An Art Deco Bathroom Restored to its former glory

The restoration of an iconic 1930s bathroom, previously designed for the Duchess of Argyll by the modernist interior designer Syrie Maugham, was perfect for Amanda’s expertly attuned eye for luxury and glamour. Developers had sadly removed almost all of the original glass in the 1980s, leaving only the fluted uplighters on which to base the glass design. Important decisions had to be made about what needed replacing and what could be retained from the original iconic scheme. A craftsman developed a special diamond cutting method to recreate the fluted glass of the pilasters and architraves and the original green tint of the glass was replicated. Replacement period light fittings from Osler and Co were also sourced. The room is again rooted in the Hollywood glamour that Syrie was so passionate about in her work.

Amanda would be delighted to discuss interior projects in which her knowledge and skills in this specialised area of architectural interior design can be effectively employed.
